In what has by now become an ongoing collaboration with artist and illustrator Annabelle Hartmann we developed A Monster for London for the V&A's Friday Late at the request of Tea and Make. A Monster for London was one of those things that had lived a quiet life in the sketchbook, but when it happened in April 2010, it was anything but quiet: Our four-man stall served around 250 people in the four hour event fortunately, this is a fast-paced activity, so the waiting wasn't too bad. People started of with chosing and ESSENCE for their London-themed monster, after that they moved to the next station where they picked a VISAGE. The last thing they added to their monster was EXTREMITIES after which they cut out their finger puppet monster (which at this point had an empty space where the HEART would be). When they were ready, their heartless monster took on a London Landmark like the London Eye, Monument or Elephant and Castle Shopping Center to gain their HEART, if the monster won, it were proclaimed Ruler of London, if London won, the monster was integrated and became a commuter. We are currently considering an online version of this game. |
