Every Thing is Black or White In 2006 a thought exploded in my mind: I'll limit myself to two colours (black and white) base my work on this, base everything on this, toys, graphics, clothes. Black and white, you don't get any higher contrast than that, so in my mind I started breaking everything up in monochrome, I'm still doing this, even thought the clothing bit became a bit silly at some point. At the time I had recently been one of 40 artists invited to customize a 1966 Action Man. Working with a toy that had body language was interesting, as I am not a character designer and therefor I can't make a cute face if you put a gun to my head, especially not if you put a gun to my head, I found the addition of body language to my customs amazing. I made other rules for the project: I must not have any narrative attached to these figures. To this day I don't know if these are people in costumes or some sort of robots - and idea inspired by me growing up with the Star Wars Trilogy. Theres is no back story to them. read on |
